Guided Reading/Grammar: We will finish our study of complex and complex-compound sentences by the end of this week, as well as continuing to read silently for 30 minutes each day. I asked the students to come ready to differentiate among the various sentence types.
Advanced Math: Since over half the class needed more time to finish their test, we did not start the new book today. We will begin Growing, Growing, Growing tomorrow.
Debates: We had our practice debates today, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that each group learned a lot about the debate process through this practice. Tomorrow we will spend the entire time fixing our weak areas and helping each other become prepared for Wednesday and Thursday, when the actual live debates will take place.
NHD: It was our first day together, and I know I gave you a ton of new information. The rest of the week will be more student-centered, and you will all have plenty of time to delve into your interests to successfully choose a topic for NHD. I will post the NHD code to Edmodo in Social Studies so that you have it. There you will find all sorts of helpful information, including topic selection guides and a student NHD guide, as well as the winning website.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Guided Reading: We will continue our focus on different kinds of sentences next week and have the complex sentence assessment.
Advanced Math: Test today, no homework this weekend :)
Debate: We worked on preparing notecards for our practice debate on Monday. There will be very little time on Monday to finalize the notecards before the practice debate, but after the debate, you will have some time to discuss as a team the "holes" in your plan and start to fill some of them. Tuesday will be the final day of preparation before the actual live debate on Wednesday. (Though some of you are debating on Thursday, ALL of you must be prepared by Wednesday. There will be ZERO MINUTES allotted to working on your debate on Wednesday.)
NHD: This was the last day for NHD for this particular Social Studies group. We finalized topics and students should continue to gather resources over the next week. After next week, the entire CC Pod will be focusing on NHD during the 11:30-12:00 Social Studies time.
Have a great weekend! Remember that our school is having a blanket drive for those who are in challenging circumstances. The blanket drive begins on Monday, so please bring in any blankets that your parents have given you permission to donate.

Guided Reading: We will continue our discussion on the different types of sentences on Monday. Tomorrow will be a silent reading day.
Advanced Math: Test on Looking for Pythagoras tomorrow! If you are looking for some extra explanation, I will be on TodaysMeet from 7:30-8:30 tonight. You need to come with specific questions, and I will try to answer them the best I can. (And I'll bring a Jolly Rancher for all those who participate actively!) Also, I will be at school by 6:30 tomorrow morning, so you are welcome to come up to my room then as well. I do have to leave at 7:10, however, for a staff meeting, so you will have to leave my room at that time. One last note: in order to have the opportunity to retake any or all parts of the test (not that you have to--I'm expecting great grades!), you need to complete and turn in that review sheet that was assigned last week and again last night.
Debate: Tomorrow we will be spending time putting our debate script on notecards and preparing for our practice debate, which will happen on Monday. It wouldn't hurt to continue your research this evening if you have the chance. More information equals more "ammunition" against your opposition.
NHD: Continue to do preliminary research on your topic, and tomorrow we will finalize your topic choice. Your job is to continue to research your topic so that you become a near-expert on it. This will help you create your actual project much more effectively.
In summary, homework for tonight:
*Advanced Math: STUDY!! Complete the review guide if you haven't already.
*Research for your debate
*Research for NHD
As always, feel free to email me with questions or concerns. Have a great day!
