Happy Friday, everyone!
The second half of the group stayed back at Lincoln with me today. Students went to grammar or art, then math, and finally an extended block of flipped classroom time for language arts and social studies. Students all visited the LMC today and were able to check out novels for silent reading time.
Here are reminders of what is due on Monday/next week:

- Read, read, read, read! You should be reading for 30 minutes, uninterrupted, every single day. While there is no assignment associated with free reading outside of the school day at the moment, research shows that kids who do this improve/sustain their reading abilities. (It makes sense, right? Practice usually leads individuals to get better or stay fit in an area.) Eventually, there will be a reading blog that you will be keeping, so be prepared! :)
Parents, I know this seems like a lot of work for the weekend. Most of the assignments are very short, and students have either known about them or been given ample time in class to complete them. We have a morning homework club, called the Sunrise Club, in Room 208 (the 2nd floor computer lab), and there is an after school homework club, just called Homework Club, in the LMC. Likewise, I arrive to school at 6:50 every morning (6:30 on Fridays), and except for Tuesdays when I have Student Council, I am available most days after school until 4. (I do leave if no kids show up sometime, so students should let me know they're coming if they need me to wait.)
Please, please, please email me over the weekend with concerns. Don't wait until the last minute. I will be checking Edmodo and school mail all weekend off and on while I grade writing prompts and journal entries and late work. :) HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! BE SAFE!
Well, as you know, half of us are attending the Outdoor Educational Experience at Camp Salem today, but the half the was here had a productive day.
Grammar: We started a review of simple and compound sentences, as well as apostrophes through a Jeopardy game. We'll continue this tomorrow, with a quick lesson on apostrophes as well.
Math: My math students finished 2.2 today. We will begin 2.3 tomorrow before they head to Camp Salem.
We had our first LMC visit today so that students could check out books and be prepared for silent reading time. On days that we don't have silent reading at school, students are expected to be reading at home for at least 30 minutes.

Today we had an abbreviated science/language arts schedule to make time for students' social studies presentations. We will do the same thing tomorrow.
Grammar: Today, students took their simple sentence assessments and moved on to compound sentences. We'll focus on compound sentences the next couple days. No new homework.
Math: A quiz on slope and integers started out the class period today. Students then had the choice to pair up or work independently to complete Investigation 2.1. We will complete 2.2 in class tomorrow.
LA: Students set up accounts with noredink.com and were shown the three assignments focusing on apostrophes. These assignments are simply practice for a quiz that will take place on Monday. They will not count toward the LA grade. However, the quiz will. This site does a good job of explaining the rules of punctuation. We will have some time to complete those assignments in class tomorrow, and then we'll get back into focusing on spooky stories.
Social Studies: We continued with student presentations on the 5 themes of geography and will do so again tomorrow. Students should continue to practice their geography of Russia by using the maps that are on Edmodo. If students haven't signed up for the Social Studies class via Edmodo yet, they need to do so.
