Wow, where did the week go? Friday is here! Just a reminder that next week is a two-day week, with no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Advanced Math: Students started Investigation 3.1, learning the "whys" behind the Pythagorean Theorem. Assignment for Monday: Finish 3.1 and do ACE QUESTIONS p.38-39 (1-12).
Language Arts: Today we took a very rushed but information walking field trip to the Main Library. Students will be heading back to the library for NHD research during the second week of December. No new homework.
Have a great weekend!

REMINDER: LANGUAGE ARTS CLASSES ARE WALKING TO THE MAIN LIBRARY TOMORROW. Please dress appropriately for the weather and for walking. We will have a tour of the library and learn some helpful information for NHD. Bring your library cards because you will have a few minutes to visit the young adult section and check out books.
Advanced Math: We finished up the preliminary discussion for 2.3 and got a pretty good start on it. The majority of students were almost finished. Assignment for tomorrow: Finish 2.3, do p.23 #6.
Language Arts: Today was our last day of poetry for awhile. Students wrote "I Can't Write a Poem" poems, applying their knowledge about sound/poetic devices. Since these were turned in as an exit ticket, there is no new homework for tomorrow. A few students are still missing their ekphrastic poems, the last journal entry (#5--the second #5; I made a mistake with my numbering), and credo poems. These students have detention with me after school in order to get their work done.
National History Day: Students were given a list of databases that they can use to research their topics. We will finalize topics after students have had some time to do the necessary research. Basically, a topic is approved if the student can justify its connection to the NHD theme, Turning Points in History.

Parents: We are currently having a pie ingredient drive, helping to gather pumpkin filling, evaporated milk, and deep-dish premade pie crusts. Mrs. Binkis is making pies to be donated to the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Any donations of these items would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...
Advanced Math: Students started 2.2 today, discussing strategies for finding lengths of line segments. Due to a fire drill, we did not get a chance to finish 2.2. This is where we will start tomorrow. No homework.
Language Arts: My student teacher, Mr. Bergemann, continued the discussion on sound devices within poetry. Students were assigned to write a "credo poem," which is due at the beginning of class tomorrow. The directions and examples for this assignment are posted on Edmodo, but students can handwrite the poem if they so choose.
Also, we have a walking field trip to the Main Library this Friday. I handed out library card enrollment forms to students today. On Friday, I will give the librarians any completed enrollment forms, and once the cards are ready, I will pick them up from the library and distribute them to students. Having a library card will come in handy as the ball gets rolling with the National History Day project, which students will be spending some of their Language Arts and Social Studies time working on.
Social Studies: The girls were in my room, and we continued our discussion on NHD. They were given a handout that should help guide their research and solidify their topic choice. Tomorrow I will show students some of the options for online research that will be helpful.
