Reading Responses for Blocks 1 and 2
Students created a reader's response blog on Google Drive and shared it with me. Title of the blog is their first name and then the words "Reading Response Blog". Completion Points for the creation of the "blog." This is where all reading responses should be typed from now on.

Students had to write a paragraph about what would make a good gift for their main character. They had to have a full paragraph with at least five sentences for full credit.

1/20
After independent reading, students had to write a summary, draw a picture and write what it represented, and ask three questions.

1/26
Students had to write a five-sentence (or more) prediction of their story and then explain why they feel this is what will happen next, using details from the story to support their prediction.

BLOCKS 1 AND 3:

ASSIGNMENT FOR TUESDAY

(DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS)

All of you already know the assignment, but here it is again:
  1. Go through your speech and mark it with BOLD letters for emphasis.  Put (PAUSE) or ellipses (…) for pauses.
  2. Print out your speech.  Circle the parts where you want to slow down for effect. Write “BREATHE” in the margin (if you need reminders).
  3. Practice your speech at least 3 times.
  4. Video record yourself rehearsing your speech at least one time.
  5. Write a bulleted list of at least 5 places you want to improve.
Also, many of you wanted to know how I am going to grade your assignment.  Here is the breakdown:
  • Video Recording of your speech:  10 points
  • Bulleted List of 5 areas to improve:  10 points
In order to get the full 10 points on your video, I need to see it and it needs to have both audio and video, and it needs to cover your entire six-paragraph speech.
In order to get the full 10 points on you list of 5 things to improve, you need to focus on the DELIVERY aspect of your speech (your volume, your intonation, your pace, etc...all the things we talked about today.) You must show honest and helpful feedback to yourself.
