- Propaganda used to control citizens of the society
- Information, independent thought, and freedom is restricted
- A figurehead or concept is worshiped by citizens of the society
- Citizens are perceived to be under constant surveillance
- Citizens have a fear of the outside world
- Citizens live in a dehumanized state
- The natural world is banished and distrusted
- Citizens conform to uniform expectations. Individuality and dissent are bad.
- The society is perceived as a perfect/utopian world.
- often feels trapped and is struggling to escape.

We will continue discussing "Harrison Bergeron" this week and continue with more dystopian short stories as the month goes on. This will lead us into our dystopian novel unit.
