Writer's Notebook Check--Friday, November 2--10 points for writing.
For full credit, you should have the following entries in your Writer's Notebook. You need to be sure to get entries that happened when you were absent as well. This includes excused absences (field trips, Circle Keepers, illness, family vacations, personal absences, suspensions) and unexcused absences.
- 10/17: Write about your favorite place. Use sensory language and at least one simile or metaphor.
- 10/19 What is the hardest thing you have had to go through? (Focus: Use strong verbs.)
- 10/21: Write about your weekend. Write at least two AMAZING paragraphs (topic sentence, supporting details, concluding sentence).
- 10/24: Idiom Notes (Scroll down for these)
- 10/24 Denotation vs Connotation notes
- 10/24: Sustained Writing entry: Write an entry that begins with "It was a blessing in disguise..." and includes as many idioms as you can think of.
- 11/1 Write at least one well written paragraph about a topic of your choice. The entire entry needs to be focused on one topic only. Underline the prepositional phrases in your sentences.
- 11/1 Quarter 1 update--Number the answers to your questions please, and be thorough. If you do not have you Skyward log-in information, please ask the office.
- Update your table of contents.

Denotation-Connotation Notes and Assignment
Denotation/denotative: the dictionary definition, the literal meaning of language
Connotation/connotative: the contextual/cultural/emotional meaning
Assignment: Make a list of three words, then listing their denotation and connotation. Here is an example:
Word/Phrase: Chicken Noodle Soup
Denotation: Soup containing chicken, broth, and vegetables
Connotation: Warmth, comfort, "healing"
